To do?
Annual jazz festival
The highlight of the summer in Molde is the jazz festival held in week 29 each year. Famous artists in jazz and popular music come here and give visitors a packed and varied program on stages indoors, in parks and the biggest events are held in the Romsdalsmuseet.
In Storgata, there is a bustling crowd between the stalls selling local handicrafts, dishes with origins both local and far away, and street musicians who add an extra touch to the atmosphere. The jazz festival is popular for the whole family, especially the street parade.
Every day the parade goes through Storgata with brass bands and dancers, to the great delight of the crowd who gather to hear the music, get caught up in the atmosphere and let themselves be carried away. Another favorite is freshly baked donuts at the Kneippen patisserie, a taste you won’t want to miss.
Romsdal Museum
A short walk from the seafront and Storgata is the Romsdalsmuseet. The museum was established in 1912 and is today the regional museum for Molde, Hustadvika, Aukra, Rauma, Vestnes and Steffågarden on Ona. In Molde you can experience the village and town collection where approx. 40 houses show building customs and ways of life in the Romsdal way over the last 300-400 years.
In the summer season, daily guiding is offered and several of the houses are open to guests. There are varied activities daily, such as demonstrations of crafts, baking techniques with tastings and treasure hunts for children.
In the Krona museum building with its distinctive architecture, the exhibition «Romsdalshistorier» tells about the Romsdalen and the way of life in the area through different times. The café and museum shop offer simple dishes and great gift items and souvenirs. Out in Bygata, «Old Molde» has been recreated, as it was before the city fire in 1916 and the wartime bombings in 1940.
Viewpoint, climbing and alpine skiing

Molde’s vantage point Varden offers a panoramic view of 222 mountain peaks. You can get here by car, or by an hour-long hike on a nature trail from the center. The ward has an open café during the season.
Molde Climbing Center opened in 2023 and is a popular facility for the whole family. The center has a large rope wall, training areas, bouldering walls, a play corner for the little ones, equipment hire and offers courses. And when it’s time for a break, you can buy something good in the café and recharge your batteries on new climbing roofs with a panoramic view of the Romsdal Alps.
There is a lot of activity in Tusten, both summer and winter. The climbing park Høyt og Lavt takes place outdoors and has exciting trails for young and old with graded trails according to degree of difficulty. In winter, the alpine slope opens in Tusten, just 6 km from the center of Molde and 33 km from Bud. Tusten is known for having one of Norway’s best beginner slopes, and otherwise has 4 lifts, a terrain park, 10 slopes, a warming room and evening skiing.
